Zayo to Upgrade Manhattan to Cyan

November 1st, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

No, Zayo Group (news, filings) isn’t painting its Manhattan network pale blue, I mean the equipment vendor. Zayo will be upgrading its metro network in the Big Apple using Cyan’s Z-Series packet optical gear.  Apparently they’ve been using Cyan gear in a number of other markets already, with positive results.  The upgrade will enable Zayo to offer more advanced Ethernet and wavelength services.

New York City isn’t Zayo’s biggest fiber/bandwidth market, but it is the center of its ZColo interconnection business and the home of the Meet-Me room at 60 Hudson they acquired as part of the Fibernet Telecom Group deal a few years ago. That makes the market very much a key endpoint on their network for customers across their footprint. Once the 360Networks deal closes and their intercity fiber goes transcontinental, that will be even more true.
