The US employment rate may still be struggling to find a way down, but in the world of fiber things still seem to be picking up - at least if the number of postings to the Ramblings’ Jobs Board are any measure. This weekend we have another new posting, this time from way down south at FPL Fibernet.
FPL Fibernet is looking for a Network Buyer, responsible for sourcing, purchasing and vendor relationships for type ii (off net) leased transport services, collocation, data communications, dark fiber, and technology services. FPL Fibernet is one of the few energy-owned fiber operators that have emerged as an aggressive player beyond those early wholesale dark fiber roots. Earlier this year they even expanded beyond their parent's home turf and into Texas by buying Grande's intercity and metro fiber. That they are also looking at more off net sales suggests they plan to stay on offense.
These add to other recent job postings: one by 360Networks, two by OCG, and three others by Lightower to make seven - an all time high for Telecom Ramblings (though hopefully not for long!). A healthy job market despite the wave of consolidation that has swept the fiber sector in the past 18 months can’t be anything other than a good sign…
