eSchools Moves to Level 3

January 13th, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Yesterday, Level 3 Communications (NYSE:LVLT, news, filings) announced an agreement with eSchool Solutions in which the educational software provider will leverage the company’s CDN to deliver a training program and also to enhance its voice needs as well.  eSchool Solutions is a provider to more than 600 school districts and thousands of schools across the US and Canada.  They will use the CDN services to support a new virtual training platform, while both improving performance and saving money on their telephony needs.  Virtual teaching methods seem primed for a real explosion in the next decade, changing the ways of education in very fundamental ways.

This is another example of Level 3 successfully bundling CDN services with its more traditional products – in this case VoIP.  There are plenty of competitors who could have supplied the CDN side here, and plenty more who could have handled the VoIP job, but few could handle both.  As more and more types of businesses find value in content delivery networks, such cross-sector opportunities should continue to grow.
