Some financing, some federal funding, and some nextgen technology prep:

123NET has picked up a significant BEAD award in Michigan. They have been awarded $86M which they will target toward 17K BEAD-funded addresses. The funding will support the buildout of some 1,700 miles of fiber network in the counties of Allegan, Barry, Calhoun, Eaton, Jackson, Kent, Kalamazoo, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, Ottawa and Washtenaw. Construction will begin early next year.

EdgeCore finished some balance sheet work this week. They have announced completion of an asset-backed securitization of $521M. The asset doing the backing is EdgeCore’s SV01 facility in Santa Clara, and the funds will go toward refinancing construction loans and funding future development. The deal follows a similar ABS issuance last year backed by the company’s Phoenix data center.

And this morning Lumen gave us a window into some of its nextgen technology priorities and the partners they will be working with. They will be working with Emerald AI to put their infrastructure to work shifting AI loads to where power is more readily available. They will be working with Ohio State University to support quantum computing ofer distance. And they will be introducing post-quantum security capabilities with the help of Fortinet’s SASE solutions.
