A new market, a bit of consolidation, and a collaboration:
Lightpath is opening up another new metro fiber market. They are building out infrastructure in and around Atlanta, starting with wavelength and IP transit services to 30 data centers. The infrastructure complements Lightpath’s longhaul network efforts, which now reach the east coast markets of New York Philadelphia, Ashburn, and Miami as well as the central markets of Chicago and Dallas. They aren’t talking about a dark fiber buildout yet in Atlanta, but if the opportunity arises I’m sure we’ll hear about it.
IQ Fiber has made an inorganic move down in South Carolina. They have announced the acquisition of the fiber assets of Orangeburg Fiber, which consist of a $35M investment in the city of Orangeburg SC. That’s just off I-26 between Columbia and Charleston. IQ Fiber operates networks along the east coast from Jacksonville up theough Delaware, and this takes them a bit further inland from their presence in Charleston and Savannah.
And Comcast Business is teaming up with Colt Technoloyg Services to improve their automation. They have unveiled a program in the Comcast Business Innovation Lab that develop API-driven interoperability across both companies’ networks, leveraging the LSO standards from Mplify. The arrangement pairs Comcast Business’s enterprise markets with Colt’s international reach, and the integration model can be extended to additional carriers smoothly.
