Some last mile news, an intercity optical buildout, and some possible M&A:

Netnod and Smartoptics are teaming up for new intercity connectivity in Scandinavia. Netnod has selected Smartoptics as a strategic partner for a new DWDM network connecting the key cities of Stockholm, Malmö, Gothenburg, Oslo and Copenhagen. Netnod operates the region’s largest IX exchanges, and this move will give them ownership at the optical layer. That will allow them control over redundancy and greater precision in delivering its time services.

CityFibre has won an extended partnership with VodafoneThree in the UK. They will be helping support VodafoneThree’s 5G Standalone mobile network infrastructure, connecting a number of the provider’s mobile sites across the country. CityFibre’s main focus is of course on its last mile fiber, which reaches 4.7M premises today, and connects up 330K for Vodafone itself.

Lightcurve’s expansion in the Pacific Northwest is reaching deeper into more markets with bigger bandwidth. They have now launched 8G services in Centralia and Chehalis, which straddle I-5 between Tacoma and Portland. The company has been expanding across it’s footprint including Ellensburg, Kittitas, and Selah, which are in Central Washington on the other side of the Cascade mountain range.

And there may be some consolidation on the way in the global AI data center space. Reuters has reported that MGX is taking a look at DayOne in what could be a $20B deal. If it happens, it would be the Middle Eastern infrastructure provider’s first move into the APAC region. DayOne has a presence in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong, Finland and Spain.
