Four expansions and upgrades from around the world to catch up with:
Arelion continues to expand its US network, adding a new point of presence in Oklahoma. The new PoP is located in RACK59’s campus in Oklahoma City, which boasts some 315MW of power infrastructure. Arelion is looking to tap into the potential AI marketplace in the region, which includes investments by the likes of Google.
GNM has expanded its reach deeper into eastern Europe. The Dutch based backbone and IX operator has added a point of presence in the Romanian capital of Bucharest. The new GNM-IX PoP is located within NXDATA-1, enabling interconnections between Romanian operators and content networks and adding connectivity options back to the rest of European infrastructure.
Nokia has picked up a new strategic collaboration partner in the energy sector. Germany’s E.ON will be using Nokia’s technology to modernize its communications infrastructure, enabling a high-efficiency network reducing energy consumption by 50% while improving security and resilience. E.ON connects some 1.4M renewable energy nodes across its distribution grid. Nokia will be providing IP routing and switching, optical transport, XGS-PON, and network automation.
And Ciena has been chosen by PLDT for a network upgrade project. The Philippines’ telco will be using Ciena’s WL5e optical technology to improve its backhaul network serving the the Asia Direct Cable system. ADC is an intra-Asian system that launched in 2024 stretching from Hong Kong to Japan, reaching into southeast Asia, mainland China and Taiwan, and of course the Philippines along the way.
