Tuesday Roundup: Interxion, Ciena, UPN, Uniti

September 7th, 2021 by · Leave a Comment

For those in the US, welcome back from the long weekend and whatever August vacations you might have gotten up to in these odd times.  Now it’s time to catch up with a few items from last week that slipped past my nets.

Interxion is investing in some new French infrastructure. The division of Digital Realty has revealed plans for a new facility 30km east of Paris in Ferrières-en-Brie. If all goes well, the expansion will add eight data halls and 12MW of power to the data center specialist’s footprint and will complement the hubs to the north and south of the city.  It will be the company’s 12th facility in the Paris metro area.

Ciena made an inorganic move last week alongside its earnings announcement. The optical and software vendor has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Vyatta from AT&T. Vyatta specializes in virtual routing and switching, and its technology underlies AT&T’s 5G wireless network — which Ciena will be supporting. Vyatta’s engineering talent will be integrated into its Routing and Switching R&D organization. AT&T acquired Vyatta four years ago as part of its virtualization efforts.

Unite Private Networks is making some of that work-from-home capability more permanent. They have leased 11,000 square feet of flexible office space from WeWork in Kansas City’s Corrigan Square. That space will support 200 UPN employees with hybrid work solutions, reducing the dedicated office space the company requires going forward while offering in-person collaboration support in a more focused way.

And I managed to miss an interesting item from Uniti last week. First, they are deploying Ciena’s RLS technology and gear to deploy C+L band support across portions of its Florida network with plans to continue the rollout nationally. The new capabilities offer diverse connectivity between Tampa and Atlanta, with add-drop in Boca Raton and Orlando with extension to Jacksonville and soon Atlanta. The deployment will enable Uniti to offer customers 100G-400G wavelength solutions and multi-terabit spectrum services by the end of 2021.
