Tuesday Bytes: BT, Aligned, Prysmian, Hedgehog

Four interesting infrastructure items from around the industry:

BT Business has picked up some work in the utility space in Scotland. Scottish Water has awarded them a multi-million-pound contract to deliver a new network and security infrastructure, which will help support water delivery to 2.6M households and 150K businesses. Scottish Water is moving away from a multi-supplier model to a single integrated approach as it invests £130M to update its infrastructure. The upgrade will help manage 7K network connections around the country.

A significant chunk of data center capacity has officially changed hands. AIP, MGX and Blackrock’s GIP have closed their deal to acquire Aligned Data Centers. The deal values Aligned at $40B, reflecting their 51 campuses and 6.4GW of operational and planned capacity. The owners may be changing, but the management team led by Andrew Schaap will remain in place. The deal is AIP’s first investment as it looks to put some $30B to work.

Prysmian revealed that it has picked up some significant customer wins recently for its optical cable products. Molex, which is part of the Koch empire, has signed on with a $6.29B long term agreement for optical cables to be deployed within data centers. The deal includes an upfront payment of $628M. More broadly Prysmian says it has lined up $11B of cumulative revenues with hyperscalers and data center providers, with some $1B yearly from 2031. They are more than doubling fiber capacity production in the US to help meet that demand.

And Hedgehog USA has lined up some energy services to support its data center development plans. They have entered into a long term energy supply agreement with Idemitsu to supply their efforts in Navarro County. Hedgehog is looking to create a ‘development-ready environment’ by the end of next year that will support data center capacity in the region to the tune of 600MW.
