Two from northwestern Europe and two from the US/Mexico border region:
Midgard Infra is getting closer to its subsea cable under the North Sea. The company, whcih we called Altibox Carrier until it rebranded in April, says the marine survey for Verena is underway. Verena will span some 630km between Denmark and the UK, and is scheduled to be ready for service in Q4 of 2028.
CityFibre has hit a key milestone in its FTTx expansion in the UK. They have now connected one million households and businesses across the country. Lots of those are as a wholesaler of course, with brands like Sky, Vodafone, and TalkTalk owning the actual customer relationship. But CityFibre’s the one building out that infrastructure, which also connects 16K mobile operators, enterprises and local authorities, including schools, hospitals and GP surgeries.
DE-CIX has added some connectivity muscle to both its IX in Dallas, Texas and the one down in Mexico. In preparing for the FIFA World Cup this summer, they anticipate graffic growth in and between both regions. DE-CIX Dallas and DE-CIX Mexico have both seen rising demand, with the former crossing the 2Tbps mark and the latter now new 300Gbps.
And Arelion is also expanding its offerings down in Mexico. They have expanded their Conflict-Free Channel Program there. The initiative supports the development of regional service providers in Mexico. Arelion operates 10 PoPs in Mexico now, with the most recent addition being in Tijuana. They also have fiber on a new underground route between Querétaro, Monterrey, and Laredo, Texas.
