Two bits of infrastructure news and three vendor items including two M&As:
Tonaquint has moved into Oklahoma City. The data center operator has officially re-opened a newly renovated facility on Newcastle Road just north of the airport. The facility is part of the EdgeX acquisition late last year and was originally owned by Devon Energy. It now has a multi-client environment with an initial 2.5MW of critical IT load and 65,000 square feet of space.
Gateway Fiber has found some new territory to expand into up in Minnesota. They are bringing their FTTx reach to Plymouth, Shoreview, Lexington, Circle Pines, and Lino Lakes in the Minneapolis metro area. Construction is beginning this spring, and follows recent moves into Blaine, Coon Rapids, Champlin, Brooklyn Park, and Maple Grove in recent months.
Quantum tech is getting ever closer. Yesterday the DWDM vendor PacketLight announced a successful demonstration of quantum key distribution over 400G DWDM links alongside Toshiba. The demo led by Japan’s National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) over both a 74km longhaul link in Okinawa and a multiplexed QKD link in Sapporo.
There was a bit of consolidation in the world of networking software. 46 Labs has announced the acquisition of Hypercube Networks LLC. 46 Labs’ technology is focused on the orchestration of connectivity for enterprises across a range of verticals. With the acquistion of Hypercube they add additional capabilities in VoIP including better support for the interface between TDM and IP.
And DZS has also made an inorganic move. The networking and cloud solutions vendor has announced a binding agreement to acquire NetComm, which specializes in Fiber Extension, fixed wireless access, home broadband, and industrial IoT. DZS will fold those capabilities into its portfolo along with NetComm’s 50 service provider and enterprise customers. The deal is expected to close later this quarter.
