Four interesting items from the European theatre:

Start Campus has lined up a new network partner for its SINES Project on the Portuguese coast. Colt is expanding the footprint of its IQ Network into the developing hub, adding another key node to the company’s fully automated network. The hyperscale data center campus sits near the landing station for all these new cables coming into Europe via Portugal, acting as a key gateway from Europe to three continents.

Orange Business has made an inorganic move in the healthcare vertical. Enovacom, one of Orange Business’s subsidiaries, has acquired NEHS Digital and Xperis from MNH Group. The deal gives Enovacom reach into 600 healthcare institutions, 900 social healthcare establishments, and more than 800 radiology practices in France. Orange Business is clearly looking to expand its managed services reach in the e-health space.

Nokia and lyntia have teamed up for a demo of Nokia’s 6th generation super-coherent PSE-6 technology. On a live commercial network in Spain the two demonstrated a 1.2Tbps connection over a 100km ring in Barcelona of 6 spans through 7 ROADM nodes with CDC-F technology. They also achieved error-free 800Gbps on a 1,900km network across 25 spans through 12 ROADM nodes.

And Clio Fiber has tapped Adtran to bring FTTH to underserved regions of southern Italy. They are leveraging Adtran’s Combo PON technology and supporting capabilities in Puglia, the southeastern region of Italy that forms the heel of the boot. The Connecting Europe Broadband Fund is supporting the expansion project.
