Wednesday Roundup: Lumen, neutrality.one, Accelecom, FiberSense

A bit of smart-city infrastructure, some low latency, some regional telehealth connectivity, a bit of seismic sensing:

Lumen has some smart city efforts in mind, partnering with AustinGIS and Sky Packets to build next generation platforms. Austin GIS offers smart-infrastructure-as-a-service capabilities, Sky Packets innovates around last-mile connectivity, and of course Lumen brings its network depth and breadth to the table. AustinGIS and Sky Packets saw some success in Mexico City recently, and by teaming with Lumen they hope to extend that success into other markets and projects.

The global cloud network operator neutrality.one has added some new ultra-low latency routes to its infrastructure. Looking to meet demand from latency sensitive customers from HFT to gaming, the routes cover markets in South America and EMEA with additional expansions in APAC as well. neutrality.one’s SDN-powered footprint claims a reach of 180 countries now.

On a more local note, Accelecom has a new healthcare win to report out in rural Kentucky. They will be collaborating with Mountain Comprehensive Care Center, which operate a range of facilities across sthe region. The result will be better connectivity in support of telehealth and other capabilities for far flung programs and community care locations.

And FiberSense’s efforts to use fiberoptic networks for non-bandwidth uses are moving into New Zealand. They have teamed with GNS Science, Te Pu Ao (GNS) to monitor seismic activity in and around the city of Wellington. Together they will be leveraging a fiberoptic loop from Vodafone’s metro footprint both to improve data collection in an under-sampled region and to better evaluate the technology’s capabilities.
