A Dark Fiber Deal for Uniti Group

July 26th, 2023 by · Leave a Comment

Uniti Group has picked up a key longhaul dark fiber customer. An unnamed ‘prominent global internet provider’ has signed on for two routes covering 7,000 fiber strand miles in order to bolster an existing national footprint with increased diversity and capacity.

The first route connects multiple Midwestern destinations back to both Ashburn and Chicago, including Indianapolis, Toledo, Cleveland, Pittsburg, and Detroit. Meanwhile the second route connects New Orleans with the Alabama cities of Mobile and Montgomery.

Meanwhile, Uniti itself will add a new presence in Detroit, a new PoP in Cleveland, and five new ILA shelters along its footprint. The move enhances Uniti’s ability to generate revenue from its extensive assets in the region.

The deal is an expansion of an existing customer relationship, with the new contract estimated at $35M in value. Uniti has some 137,000 fiber route miles in its portfolio today.
