Lots of interesting items going on around the world this week:

DE-CIX is taking aim at the interconnection landscape in the Democratic Republic of Congo. They have teamed up with the service provider United S.A. and the NGO ‘Internet pour tous’ to announce that the Africa Congo Internet Exchange is live in the capital Kinshasa. They plan to interconnect networks from countries adjacent to the DRC as well, with interconnection back to DE-CIX infrastructure in southern Europe.

Aligned Data Centers has completed its purchase of ODATA. The deal gives Aligned a significant presence in Latin America, with operational data centers in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Mexico and with two more under development. They also recently took a minority steak in Omega Energia’s wind farm in northeastern Brazil. Aligned’s full footprint now spans 40 data centers throughout the hemisphere.

Princeton Data Group has some big plans in Malaysia. They have acquired 31 acres of land in the Sedenak Tech Park, Johor, which is about 30 miles northwest of the border with Singapore. Their plans envision a 150MW hyperscale campus on the site, with an initial investment of $450M to build out the first 60MW by Q2/2024. This will be PDG’s sixth country in the APAC region.

And the Brazilian optical vendor Padtec will be taking aim at routers and switches as well. They have partnered up with Taiwan’s UfiSpace and the USA’s IP Infusion to provide those capabilities to their customers. UfiSpace will be providing their disaggregated and open network technologies, while IP Infusion will be supplying their OcNOS network operating system software.
