Boldyn Networks Is Born

Well, if you wondered what BAI Communications was going to do with its growing portfolio of network infrastructure companies, then your question was resolved yesterday. BAI plans to combine all its brands under the new name of Boldyn Networks.

BAI Communications has bought 4 companies in the last two years: Mobilitie, Signal Point Systems, Vilicom, and ZenFi Networks, and the company already owned Transit Wireless. When you add it all up, the assets include 2,000 route miles of fiber, 300 macro towers, some 10K+ small cells, connectivity for 7 transit systems touching 1K stations, DAS infrastructure for 250 venues, and 77 on-net colo locations. They also operate WiFi networks in NYC, London, and Las Vegas as well as 75 military bases and 2K Link kiosks.

The rebranding will have Boldyn Networks ready for prime time in June. The company is backed by Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and has a headcount of some 700. The one piece that isn’t being merged together is BAI Australia, which will maintain its existing brand.

When you put it all together, Boldyn Networks is still a pretty unique set of assets and capabilities that doesn’t look much like any other infrastructure provider out there. It’ll take them some time to properly integrate it all together, but it should be interesting to see what new directions the combined company is able to take.
