On the metro front, some FTTH news, an IX partnership, and a data center expansion project:
Dobson has some new financial backing to help out its FTTH deployments out in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas. iCON Infrastructure Partners has invested in Dobson via the iCON V fund, with the Dobson Family retaining a significant ownership stake. The company has announced projects in Poteau and Altus over the past week or so.
Great Plains Communications is expanding its footprint in the northwest Nebraska town of Chadron. They will be building out a FTTH and FTTB network throughout the city to better serve the 5800 residents. The buildout will significantly add to the 10 fiber miles they already operate in town. Construction will begin in the spring of 2023, aiming for 1Gbps symmetric to residences and 10Gbps to businesses along with a variety of data and voice services.
EdgeConneX has expanded its partnership with the IX operator and owner Ninja-IX. The two companies started working together in EdgeConneX’s Phoenix facility. They now have IX deployments in Las Vegas, Norfolk, and Houston, and the plan is to deploy in nine additional EdgeConnex facilities by early 2023: Memphis, Madison, Santa Clara, Minneapolis, Jacksonville, Miami, Tallahassee, New Orleans, and Nashville.
And DRFortress has unveiled expansion plans for its Honolulu, Hawaii data center campus. They will be adding 200 cabinets, expanding their total footprint o 800 cabinets and 65,000 square feet. Other new features are also planned to better support enterprise customers in Hawaii, including a training and conference room, two multi-purpose kiosks, and a coffee bar and snack area with which customers can host events or group training sessions or potentially secure business continuity office space.
