Wednesday Bytes: Dartpoints, DE-CIX, Aryaka, Infinera, Windstream, Verizon

Two bits of M&A news, a certficiation, a technology rollout, and an IX partnership to catch up on at midweek:

DartPoints has settled on its approach to the IX business for its edge data center rollout. They have selected DE-CIX’s technology to power local IX deployments in Tier 2/3 markets. The deployment of DE-CIX’s multi-service platform is already underway in the company’s eastern Iowa and Dublin OH facilities.

Aryaka has made an inorganic move, acquiring Secucloud GmbH. Secucloud’s SASE platform provdes a cloud-based firewall-as-a-service, secure web gateway, and advanced threat protection, capabilities and expertise which will be integrated into Aryaka’s broader portfolio. Secucloud is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Aryaka,

Infinera has expanded its optical portfolio again. They’ve now made available 400G pluggable optics for their XTM and GX series platforms. In addition to supporting 400G pluggable optics alongside the 600G/800G embedded optics capabilities, the move brings XR optics’ point-to-multipoing capabilities to bear on the metro and regional network marketplace.

Windstream Enterprise has completed another MEF 3.0 SD-WAN services certification. This time it is the company’s Fortinet-based SD-WAN solution that has navigated the process. Windstream has taken multiple, independent routes to the enterprise SD-WAN opportunity, but has been careful to work with the MEF operational and interoperability standards.

And Verizon is mostly getting out of the media business. They are carving out and selling 90% of Verizon Media to Apollo Funds for $5B and keeping just a 10% stake. Verizon Media contains Yahoo, AOL, and other ad tech and media businesses they’ve acquired or developed over the years. That doesn’t necessarily mean Verizon’s move into this area failed, as Yahoo etc. seem to be doing ok these days. But it does indicate that the combination doesn’t have the direct operational synergy they might have hoped for back in the day.
