Thursday Roundup: Zayo, Digital Realty, Interxion, iBasis

The long holiday weekend beckons (at least here in the US), although in the current pandemic environment many of us are already home and staying there. Nevertheless, here are a few news bytes before leaving work behind: three expansions and a deal closing:

Zayo detailed some of its ongoing efforts to build new intercity fiber. This year they expect to complete new fiber routes between Miami and New Orleans, from Dallas through Atlanta to Ashburn/DC, between Chicago and Toronto, and from Seattle down to the Bay Area. After going private again this past spring, Zayo has been relatively quiet at least in the public sense. There’s plenty going on underneath though.

Digital Realty is planning a significant new data center in Hong Kong. HKG11 will be located in Kwai Chung and will add some 21,000 square meters of space and 24MW of critical IT load to its portfolio. The facility will have 12 floors, 8 of which will be dedicated to customer deployments. It is expected to be ready by mid 2021.

Meanwhile, Interxion (now also part of Digital Realty of course) has officially opened its third data center in Marseille. MRS3 was built out of a former submarine base, and at first buildout will feature 16.5MW and 7,100 square meters of IT space. The first phase brings about a third of that online, with two additiona phases scheduled to be completed next year.

And Tofane Global has polished off its latest deal. They have closed the acquisition of Portuguese-based NOS International Carrier Services, which will be consolidated under their iBASIS subsidiary. The deal adds 2B minutes of voice traffic and EUR141M in revenue to Tofane Global’s growing wholesale voice empire, boosting its presence in the mobile services space as well.
