Plenty going on out there as the summer heat finally arrives:

GTT now has couple of familiar faces in place at the top. Ernie Ortega has been tapped as interim CEO, shifting over from his prior role as chief revenue officer. Meanwhile GTT has also lured over Don MacNeil from FiberLight to take over as COO. The two have previously worked together of course, both doing a long stint with XO Communications together. Now they get to retool GTT, which is still figuring out if or how to separate out and sell off its fiber division.

In the Finger Lakes region of New York, Ontario & Trumansburg Telephone Companies has polished off some more FTTH. OTTC has added 600 miles of fiber to homes in the towns of Phelps, Clifton Springs, Trumansburg, Romulus, Interlaken and Ovid, implementing Corning's new FlexNAP deployment system. OTTC sold its regional fiber arm FLTG to FirstLight three years ago, but is still very active in the region.

Interxion's new Marseille facility has officially opened. MRS3 was built next to MRS2 within a former submarine base from World War II, and the first phase brings some 2,300 square meters of space to market. When all three phases are complete that figure will be up to 7,100. The facility will leverage cooling water drawn from the former Gardanne mines and use spare heat to help with heating in homes and offices nearby.

And the Pacific has a new subsea cable option. JGA North, a project of RTI built by NEC, has been declared ready for service. JGA North connects Japan and Guam with two fiber pairs and an initial design capacity of 24Tbps across 2700km, connecting to its southerly brother JGA South as well as a variety of other key cable systems.
