Metro Bytes: FirstLight, NJFX, ZenFi, South Reach, 1623 Farnam

A contract win, a network expansion, a partnership, a new hire, and a colo expansion:

FirstLight has won an expanded relationship with Tessy Plastics. The contract manufacture is adding some dark fiber to hook up its facility in Auburn, New York. The location is one of Tessy’s six facilities in upstate NY that FirstLight is helping hook up via a fiber ring as part of a broader project.

NJFX has added another major fiber network operator to its ecosystem down on the Jersey Shore. CenturyLink has anchored its network at the company’s cable landing station colocation campus, and will be offering its full suite of services to customers from the facility. NJFX sits next to the endpoints of four major submarine cable systems connecting the NY metro region to Europe and South America.

ZenFi and PacketFabric are teaming up for cloud connectivity. The two unveiled a partnership leveraging ZenFi’s deep NY/NJ metro depth and PacketFabric’s highly automated interconnection platform. Both companies will see expanded reach via the other’s infrastructure. ZenFi’s network spans some 1100 route miles in the region, while PacketFabric’s footprint stretches out to 160+ colo facilities in 24 markets worldwide.

South Reach Networks continues to add muscle to its leadership team down in Florida. They have brought in Dexter Cartwright as both CFO and CSO effective immediately. Cartwright moves over from Cable & Wireless in the Caribbean region, experience that will help South Reach advance its plans to assemble an infrastructure footprint anchored in southern Florida. South Reach recently acquired the fiber and colo of Resurgence Infrastructure Group.

And out in Nebraska, 1623 Farnam is expanding its Omaha data center. They have earmarked $40M for an expansion, upgrading the facility’s power and converting floors 6 through 9 into data center space. This follows up on last year’s $10M expansion on the fifth floor, which must have gone pretty well if they plan to do four more floors. When fully upgraded the facility will feature 75K square feet across 8 floors with 8MW of power.
