Everstream Taps Uniti for Milwaukee Dark Fiber

May 7th, 2020 by · Leave a Comment

With big buildout plans already underway throughout the Midwest, Everstream today turned to a fellow infrastructure company for a quick boost in its reach. They have announced a long term strategic fiber IRU with Uniti Fiber in Milwaukee.

The fiber network in question has a fiber count of 144 along much of its routes, and Everstream will henceforth be operating and maintaining all but 24 fibers. The balance will presumably remain in Uniti’s hands, either for their own use or perhaps already leased to someone else. Maybe it’s Windstream, I don’t have any info on it though so feel free to help out in the comments if you do.

That infrastructure will give Everstream’s ongoing network buildout in the Milwaukee metro area a deeper presence downtown, enabling the deployment of 500+ small cell sites amongst other things. The company just started building out in Milwaukee in November, and has plans for a network spanning 560 route miles.

It’s part of a broader expansion project that will potentially boost Everstream’s infrastructure to 15,000 route miles of fiber connecting 3,000 on-net locations by the end of the year.
