Tuesday Roundup: Sparkle, Flexential, Silver Peak, NTT

A few items worth noting from around the world and around the industry:

Sparkle has added another PoP to its global IP backbone this week, reaching into the Caucasus region of Asia. They have deployed a node in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. Working with the mobile provider Ucom, the new PoP will support growing demand from the region for more direct, lower latency IP transit options to the rest of the world.

Flexential announced a new partnership that gives them direct access down into Latin America. They are working with Seaborn Networks to extend their FlexAnywhere offering over the Seabras-1 cable system between the US and Brazil. With Seaborn’s connectivity on tap, Flexential customers can access low latency wholesale bandwidth to a whole selection of growing markets.

Silver Peak has expanded its integration with Microsoft’s Cloud. Their SD-WAN technology can now tie in even more directly with Azure Virtual WAN and Office 365 and automate enterprise branch connectivity. The integration will make it easier for enterprises to build out and manage their nextgen WAN infrastructure.

And late last week NTT launched a new subsea unit down in southeast Asia. They have partnered with JICT and Wen Capital to found Orient Link, in which they will own a 42% stake. The first project seems to be a new cable between Singapore and other Asian destinations including Mumbai. Details are still unclear on that, but I’m sure we will hear more in the coming months.
