NYI Expands to Chicago

September 12th, 2019 by · Leave a Comment

The data center and managed service provider NYI is making a move out in the Midwest. Today they announced the acquisition of a data center out in the Chicago metro area.

NYI is buying a former Navisite data center in Oak Brook, presumably the one at 800 Jorie Boulevard. It features 17,659 square feet of total space with 1.25MW power. NYI will use that infrastructure to target opportunities in the financial vertical and other enterprise opportunities.

This purchase follows the recent news of the sale of NYI-NJ to 365 Data Centers, which took NYI out of NJ. I wondered at the time what they were up to, and apparently it was a shift toward a broader footprint. They may not be in NJ anymore, but they still have two locations in NYC and now a presence in Chicago.

It’s interesting that Navisite itself was also in the news recently, being purchased from Charter by the private equity firm RDX. That’s another case where I wonder what they’re up to.
