Friday Roundup: FirstLight, DE-CIX, Windstream

A few interesting items before everyone goes home for the weekend:

FirstLight has connected a historical site to its fiber network up in northern New England. Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home, has picked FirstLight for its internet connectivity, solving issues they were having with existing connectivity following an increase in staff from 8 to 32. Hildene is a new one on me, but apparently was built by Abraham Lincoln’s son Montgomery, Vermont in 1905, and the property contains a variety of educational attractions.

DE-CIX has lined up a new data center partner. Frankfurt-based Datacenter One will be offering DE-CIX’s interconnection services at its locations in Leverkusen, Dusseldorf, and Stuttgart, with Leverkusen being hooked up as the first step. The relationship will enable DE-CIX to extend its reach into more German metro areas and data center hubs. They already have a presence in Hamburg, Munich, Dusseldorf, and Berlin.

And Windstream Wholesale is expanding its overall Ethernet reach in a big way. They are increasing the company’s fixed wireless services to over 50 major metro areas, complementing its fiber reach. The move brings another 400K buildings and 3M businesses into their potential orbit, with additional markets and reach to be added as 2019 unfolds.
