Network M&A: Fatbeam Acquires Ednetics’ IP Connect

July 10th, 2018 by · Leave a Comment

In an interesting network MA move up in the Pacific Northwest, Fatbeam today announced the purchase of the IP Connect division of Ednetics. The deal widens Fatbeam’s customer base in its core region while broadening its product portfolio with more lit services.

Ednetics provides managed services to the education vertical, and they have been a long term partner with Fatbeam in the E-Rate business. By buying the IP Connect business from them and expanding it across the fiber operator’s full footprint, Fatbeam is diversifying further outward from the dark fiber business. Ednetics presumably will keep the other, more managed services like voice, video, and site security.

Fatbeam has been on the move geographically as well, recently picking up some E-Rate contracts in Nevada and Arizona. Today’s acquisition was enabled by new financing from Bank Street and Post Road Group, and there is certainly room for more.
