Wednesday Bytes: ADVA, Cologix, Interxion

March 22nd, 2017 by · Leave a Comment

A quick rundown of some news items from across the sector:

ADVA Optical Networking unveiled some new technology this week, adding another number to the transport arena: 600Gbps. That’s what they can now transport over a single wavelength via their newest gear aimed at the DCI market. The system as a whole can do 36Tbps in a single rack unit.

Cologix changed hands yesterday. Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners has closed a deal to become majority owner of the data center and interconnection company. Through an acquisitive strategy, Cologix has amassed a 24 data center footprint across 9 markets since its founding some six years ago. Not much will change on the ground, as the existing management team will remain in place and its direction intact.

And Interxion has a new tenant from the research and education community in its Paris data center. The Dutch research network SURFnet is expanding into the campus as part of its efforts with the Advanced-North-Atlantic 300G project, which leverages diversity between three transatlantic 100G connections to minimize disruption. SURFnet also gains better access to its R&E bretheren RENATER and GEANT.
