This week starts off with a data center changing hands over in the UK. Equinix has announced the purchase of IO UK’s data center operating business.
The data center is located in Slough, home to that big data center alley to the west of London. It also happens to be close to Equinix’s own campus in Slough, although it’s not hard to be near Equinix’s presence in the region given that they had nine locations in the London metro area. This will be the tenth, as you can tell from the LD10 name it will will now go by.
The price tag was not given. However, the facility is described as being in ‘development phase’, with 350 out of a potential total of 3,340 cabinets sold. IO had started building out the facility in the summer of 2015, using the BaseLayer modular design. It generated $1.4M in revenue in 2015 (no mention of 2016 yet before you ask).
