Int’l Bytes: Ericsson, BT, VIRTUS, GCX

July 26th, 2016 by · Leave a Comment

Here’s a quick look at some news from around the world that’s worth a quick look:

Ericsson is getting itself a new leader. Hans Vestberg has stepped down as CEO and President of the global vendor after seven years. The CFO Jan Frykhammar has taken the reins on a temporary basis while the board searches for a long term replacement. Ericsson has been under pressure, and some weak Q2 results were apparently the last straw.

Britain’s Ofcom regulatory body is getting serious about BT’s OpenReach division. BT responded yesterday to recent criticism and threats to separate its OpenReach division with a new plan of autonomy granting the division its own independent board that would be able to have a greater say over investment decisions. Ofcom didn’t wait, and has issued a proposal that woud go further than that, making OpenReach legally separate from BT and obliging it to consult customers on big investments.

And VIRTUS is stretching its wings with a little help from Reliance Communications’ Global Cloud Xchange. The UK data center provider has partnered with GCX to expand its connectivity options, interconnecting with the Cloud X Fusion ecosystem. They’ll be able to take that connectivity to major cloud platforms to their customer base.
