Inteliquent to Acquire Better Voice

May 18th, 2016 by · Leave a Comment

There was a bit of inorganic action this morning from a corner of the industry that has been pretty quiet lately.  Inteliquent has acquired Shopety, Inc, which does business as Better Voice, as a means to add muscle to its Omni platform.

Better Voice offers a cloud-based PBX platform with a proprietary Voice API that it takes to market via a white-label approach.  Inteliquent apparently liked the software and switching technologies that they had developed and will be folding them into their own.

We haven’t heard all that much from Inteliquent since it sold its IP/Ethernet backbone to GTT three years ago and retrenched itself in the world of tandem switching.  In April the company launched its new Omni solution, through which they hope to equip nextgen service providers with better messaging capabilities and overall integration with the company’s switching infrastructure.  They hope to better leverage that infrastructure in a world beyond mere voice communications, and this acquisition will give them some additional technology and talent to make that happen.

The price tag for Shopefy/Better Voice was $4.4M according to Inteliquent’s 8-K SEC filing.
