Equinix Taps Facebook’s Tech For Its Ecosystem

March 9th, 2016 by · Leave a Comment

Equinix is looking to a new source of inspiration to further build out the ecosystem within its vast inventory of data centers.  They have tapped the insights and developments of the tech giant Facebook and the Open Compute Project.

Equinix has incorporated Facebook-developed Wedge open source switches to facilitate interconnections between its customers and their various clouds and networks.  The platform is powered by the Mesosphere Datacenter Operating System, which aggregates all data center resources, automates workloads, and simplifies overall management.

That innovations introduced by the tech giants after many years of rolling their own data center infrastructure around the world are trickling their way into the more general market isn’t really a surprise, of course.  Data center operators have been watching such things very carefully, and the scale of Equinix’s customer base and global footprint are such that finding new ways to keep the ecosystem humming along will always be work in progress.
