Netflix, Zayo Help CIX With New Atlanta Peering Exchange

October 6th, 2015 by · Leave a Comment

The world of interconnection has been a dynamic place of late, with new exchanges springing up in markets around the country and the world.  Today it was Atlanta’s turn through some cooperation between the streaming giant Netflix and the infrastructure leader Zayo.

Netflix and Zayo have teamed up again to help Community IX Holdings add a second market.  Community IX was created last year at the NANOG meeting, and built its first exchange (FL-IX) location in Zayo’s zColo data center in Miami about a year ago.  Zayo’s zColo will be be the primary infrastructure sponsor for the Atlanta peering exchange as well, which will be in its 1100 White Street SW facility and will be quickly moving to gain OIX-2 certification.

Netflix’s vast traffic needs plus Zayo’s fiber depth in the city should make it possible to scale the new exchange pretty quickly.  It’s a natural pairing, and one wonders where else CIX might be aiming to bring their IX model to.
