Colorado Springs Gets tw telecom’s Attention

tw telecom said yesterday that it is expanding its Colorado footprint to the south of its Denver-area home turf. They’ve already been in Colorado Springs since 2006, ever since the Xspedius deal closed I believe. But now they’ll be doubling their network reach, spreading outward from that footprint.

tw telecom network mapThat means more fiber in Colorado Springs itself, to the south into the city of Pueblo, to the north to Monument, and west into the mountains to Cripple Creek and Woodland Park.  It’s no secret where most of that fiber is coming from, as their national expansion is largely built on dark fiber they picked up from Zayo, boosting their capex significantly in Q4.  And of course, Zayo has substantial fiber in Colorado Springs — in fact they they just build out a bunch of it rather recently.  But even Zayo’s very detailed map doesn’t show anything up to Woodland Park and Cripple Creek yet, I wonder if there’s another as yet unmentioned partner out there.

Since announcing their big market expansion this past November, tw telecom has been busy getting things rolling. No doubt we’ll hear more details about their plans in a variety of the announced markets.
