DE-CIX Officially Joins the New York Open-IX Party

November 13th, 2013 by · Leave a Comment

Another of Europe’s largest internet exchange specialists has launched its entry into the US market.  Following through on its promises earlier this autumn, Frankfurt’s DE-CIX today announced the opening of its New York City internet exchange, which is ready for service and accepting orders.

The initial locations for DE-CIX New York are within the major hubs at 60 Hudson, 111 8th Ave, 32 Ave of the Americas, and 325 Hudson in Manhattan, and 165 Halsey Street over on the other side of the Hudson in Newark. They plan to add additional sites around the metro area in the near future, bringing their German flavor of the European internet exchange to the US.

DE-CIX also recently added an exchange presence in the Middle Eastern hub of Dubai. And in the US, DE-CIX still plans to expand into other key markets such as Los Angeles and San Francisco.

In New York they will have some competition though, as AMS-IX also recently started taking orders there, while LINX is busy down in northern Virginia. But the New York market is both broad and deep, and this Open-IX movement is at a very early stage yet.
