Pacnet Lines Up Connectivity With China’s Big Three

Pacnet (news) scored a trifecta in Chinese interconnectivity according to a release today. The Asia-Pacific regional network operator’s Chinese joint venture, Pacnet Business Solutions, has entered into master services agreements with all three of China’s major telecom operators: China Telecom, China Unicom, and China Mobile.

Pacnet China network mapChina has been a big focus for Pacnet, especially since unveiling its reorganization plans last fall. By integrating their networks more closely with the Chinese incumbents, they are looking to improve the building blocks they can sell to global cloud service providers looking for a foothold on the Chinese mainland.

Given the way business is done in China, someone at Pacnet has been wining and dining his way to these agreements for quite some time. As any company who has tried to crack the Chinese market from afar knows, without that personal relationship (and probably more alcohol than is recommended), nothing happens.

PBS now has datacenters online or in the works in both Chongqing and Tianjin, in addition to  an IPVPN license covering 23 provinces.
