Colo Roundup 10/11: Interxion, IO, SoftLayer

October 11th, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Several data center items already this week worth a quick look:

InterXion (NYSE:INXN, newssaid today that it will be building its seventh data centre in Frankfurt, which in the unimaginative tradition of the Colocation sector will be called FRA-7. The new facility will add 1,550 square meters of equipped space and 1.5kVA per square meter of continuous load. It will cost about €21 million in capex and should be ready for Q1 of 2012. Interxion is juggling a half dozen or more expansion projects across the continent these days, none huge by itself but they do add up.

Phoenix-based IO won another modular data center contract at its giant IO New Jersey facility. Nerds in the City will be leasing space via their DCaaS product. Nerds in the City… sounds like a coming feature on HBO next year.  Actually they offer IT services and outsourcing to the SME space in the NYC metro area.  I wonder if IO will follow up its foray into New Jersey with one in Chicago or something next year.

And Digital Realty Trust (NYSE:DLR, news, filings) has added another big customer to its Singapore. SoftLayer will be leasing 48,000 square feet of turn-key space as part of its asia-pacific expansion of its cloud and managed hosting solutions. Digital Realty bought the 370,500 square foot Jurong East location last winter, and opened it for business back in Q2.  A few more such sales, and they’re going to need to build/buy another one.
