Abovenet Adds Equinix, Telehouse Data Centers

January 20th, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

Metro fiber specialist abvt has long had a very dense NY metro area footprint, but this month they have been deepening it further with the addition of several datacenters already.  Yesterday the company announced services to two Telehouse facilities at 25 Broadway in Manhattan and 7 Teleport on Staten Island.  That allows them to offer low latency connectivity to financial clients in either facility, and gives Telehouse some more firepower in that red hot market as well.

Today, Abovenet announced that it has brought Equinix’s NY-1 facility online as well.  Equinix NY-1 is of course actually in NJ, but who’s counting.  With this addition Abovenet now has fiber to all 20 Equinix US IBX’s, a feat made possible by the fact that both companies tend to focus on the same markets.  Abovenet is also in 9 of 20 IBX’s in Europe, and will probably be in more soon if they carry out their promise of international expansion this year.  Of course, once the acquisition of sdxc closes this statistic will cease to mean as much.

Frankly, I was surprised that these facilities weren’t already online for Abovenet, but I suppose this is partly a case of filling in the gaps.
