Digital Realty to Hook Up Oracle’s Cloud

January 22nd, 2018 by · Leave a Comment

Digital Realty is making a move to augment its cloud connectivity ecosystem.  The data center REIT and interconnection provider has announced plans to offer dedicated and private access through Oracle Cloud Infrastructure FastConnect in 14 major metros.

Oracle’s cloud infrastructure is already tied tightly to Digital Realty’s colo footprint, taking up some 500,000 square feet across 16 facilities.  The 14 metro areas in which OCI will be made available through Digital Realty’s service exchange are the usual suspects in the US plus London, with some 59 actual data centers able to support private connections to Oracle’s IaaS.

Digital Realty’s interconnection business derives largely from its acquisition of Telx two years ago.  The rapid growth of the cloud interconnection business was a key piece of that puzzle at the time, and that is no less true now.
