Lightower Builds Low Latency Route to NJ1

June 19th, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

Lightower Fiber Networks (news) has been putting a lot of money to work in New Jersey as it adds depth to its network to match what it has on the other side of the Hudson. Today they unveiled a new route and claimed the low latency title between two of the newer data hubs in the region: Dupont Fabros’s NJ1 facility in Piscataway and 1400 Federal Boulevard in Carteret.

Carteret is of course the endpoint of Spread Networks’ niche ultra-low latency NYC/Chicago route, while NJ1’s size and location have made it a key more suburban alternative to Secaucus, Weehawken, and Newark.

The financial vertical’s huge presence in the New York City metro area has been the driving force behind a very competitive metro latency environment. But it does seem to be those regional specialists that are dominating this particular playing field, while the larger providers spend their money elsewhere.
