Metro Bytes: Boldyn, Sertex, Ripple, Brightspeed

Two bits of FTTX, some middle mile, and some underground:

Boldyn Networks and AT&T have been busy under the streets of New York City. They have extended cellular service to parts of the MTA’s 4/5 and G lines in Brooklyn. Those are key commuter lines into Manhattan. The DAS rollout will target additional subway paths, with the 4/5/6 segments north of 59th street on tap.

Up in the northeastern US, Sertex Broadband Solutions is adding a new regional office to support middle mile infrastructure. They have added 9,600 square feet of space just outside Augusta, Maine in the town of Sidney. From there they will organize the engineering, construction, and logistics needed for MOOSE Net. Sertex was awarded a contract for 450 miles of MOOSE Net’s 530-mile backbone last year.

Ripple Fiber’s buildout in Michigan continues to roll on. The rapidly expanding FTTH provider announced plans to expand into Garden City and Inkster, suburbs to the west of Detroit. They plan to build past some 3,750 homes and businesses, expanding on their overall reach in Wayne County. Ripple is also building out in the cities of Midland and Saganaw.

And Brightspeed offered an update of its FTTH rollout in the state of Tennessee. Brightspeed now has fiber passing 180K homes and businesses, with the company’s planned buildout now at 90% completion. Brightspeed is shifting its focus more toward increasing uptake in those areas that they have rolled out. Meanwhile the company has won $14M in BEAD funding and another $7M in ARPA funding to connect harder to reach places.
