Reinforcing the region’s role in the Mid-Atlantic digital infrastructure ecosystem, Globalinx (GLX) is announcing its plans to construct subsea fiber optic infrastructure near Ocean City, Maryland.
Based in Virginia, GLX owns and operates subsea infrastructure primarily on the US east coast. Its Cable Landing infrastructure blends subsea cable landings, terrestrial fiber and colocation, all strategically developed in accordance with its subsea cable customer needs.
Highlights of the Ocean City, Maryland project are:
- A 24,000 square foot, scalable-to-5MW, purpose-built Cable Landing Station, strategically located in the vicinity of Ocean City Municipal Airport, providing secure access, operational resilience, and long-term expansion capabilities.
- Approximately 14,000 linear feet of dedicated underground, horizontal-directionally-drilled, fronthaul infrastructure linking the beach manholes to the Cable Landing Station, providing secure, resilient, low-latency terrestrial routing.
- Support for up to four subsea cable systems, enabling scalable international connectivity alongside domestic network interconnection.
- Ready for Service (RFS) in Q3 2027, in readiness for subsea system deployment.

The Ocean City location is positioned as a Mid-Atlantic connectivity hub, providing a central point (approximately 170 miles) to Ashburn VA and New York City (190 miles), and offering a de-risked alternative to congested Northeast landing and backhaul corridors.
The Ocean City facility will operate as an extension of the GLX hub architecture, integrating subsea landing, fronthaul, backhaul, and colocation services under a GLX unified owner-operator model. GLX will provide full operational support and management, additionally backed with 24/7 Network Operations Center (NOC) services provided by GLX flagship hub in Virginia Beach, delivering centralized monitoring, operations, and lifecycle support.
While primarily built to accommodate subsea connectivity, the facility is also engineered to support local enterprises, government, regional carriers, and colocation customers. The project is demand-led and moving forward, aligned to confirmed anticipated subsea and enterprise requirements.
GLX has completed its architectural, engineering, planning and is currently completing all its permits for the marine infrastructure, the fronthaul conduits and the Cable Landing Station.
