A couple of data centers, both near and really far, and the end of a wireless infrastructure buildout dream.
RadiusDC will be adding another edge colocation campus in the Midwest. They have unveiled plans for a 24MW site near Indianapolis, Indiana, specifically in the town of Plainfield. The site will be next door to a new substation from Duke Energy and will be called Indy I, with room for Indy II when the time comes. Radius DC has facilities in Denver and Miami and is working on developments in Atlanta and Nashville.
Secure IT Env8ironments has been busy in the South Atlantic. SITE said this morning that it recently completed a complex modular containerized data center for a global communications operator on an unnamed volcanic island 1,800km west of mainland Africa. There aren’t a lot of those, so we’ll just call it, umm, St. Helena. That is where Napoleon finished out his days and is home 4K residents. It’s really remote, but at least it’s not as far out there as Tristan da Cunha.
And remember when DISH was deciding to build out a new national wireless network? Well, they definitely aren’t now. Crown Castle revealed yesterday that DISH had defaulted on payments on their wireless infrastructure agreement and that they were terminating it. The move will enable them to perhaps recover $3.5B in remaining payments. Meanwhile, DISH has sold public spectrum licenses to AT&T and SpaceX for, well, more than that. I can’t say I’m terribly surprised, I never really thought DISH’s dreams of joining the big 3 were going to happen.
