Monday Roundup: Softbank, GTT, Wyyerd, GTR

January 12th, 2026 by · Leave a Comment

Four items to start the week.

Softbank is expanding its partnership with OpenAI down in Texas. The two are each investing $500M into SB Energy. SB Energy will build and operate the previously announced 1.2GW data center in Milam County, which sits south of Waco and northeast of Austin within the Texas Triangle. Meanwhile, SB Energy will also become a major customer of OpenAI itself, and has raised $800M from Ares as it prepares to build out infrastructure in 2026.

GTT has picked up a bit of global voice business. Constellium, which specializes in aluminum solutions and recycling, will be using GTT’s SIP Trunking to connect 15 sites in Europe and North America. The deployment will power Constellium’s Microsoft Teams rollout, through which they are consolidating their voice infrastructure.

Wyyerd Fiber’s expansion in southern California has landed in a new community. They are now hooking up customers in Lakeside in the East County region of San Diego County. Wyyerd entered East county in the fall of 2024 by connecting up El Cajon, a few miles to the southwest.

And Global Technical Realty has raised just under $2B in new investments. The UK data center developer and operator has tapped the US-based private equity firms KKR and Oak Hill Capital for $1.5B and $400M, respectively. GTR will put the money toward greenfield builds in both existing markets and new ones. GTR is currently in London, Zurich, Barcelona, and Tel Aviv.
