A federal contract, a couple vendor wins, a bit of M&A, some interconnection, and some, umm, cement.
MetTel has picked up some Federal business. The US Veterans Administration has selected MetTel to modernize its landline systems across 1,875 locations. The POTS transformation solution will be funded by a $54M award through the GSA’s EIS contract. The deal covers not just standard voice lines, but the connectivity that powers elevators, alarms, emergency call boxes, fax machines, and modems.
Nokia picked up two interesting international customer contracts this week. In Korea, Empyrion Digital will be deploying Nokia routers and switches at its new data center in Seoul. Meanwhile, in the Netherlands, ProRail will be migrating from a 2G infrastructure to a cloud-native GSM-R core network. Nokia will supply, install, and maintain its cloud platform and related technology.
BNS is taking aim at network infrastructure with an acquisition and the launch of a new division. They have acquired Sphaera and formed BNS Networks in parallel to their existing division BNS Power. The twin pronged approach will let the company address demand for a wider range of AI infrastructure solutions.
DE-CIX says a new ISP is connecting up to its Frankfurt IX. The Japanese service provider BIGLOBE is using DE-CIX’s remote peering service to help optimize its intercontinental data flows. By connecting through its existing access point in Tokyo they are able to directly exchange traffic with European eyeball and content networks.
And STACK Infrastructure is looking to reduce its carbon footprint in a new way. They are collaborating with Sublime Systems to complete a pilot pour of ultra-low-carbon cement at their campus in Prince William County, Virginia. The pour covers part of a high traffic loading dock, which will enable the testing of long term durability.
