Four bits of FTTx news from along the east coast of the US.
Greenlight Networks is making a significant move southward into Maryland. They have launched a $100M project to bring their last mile reach into the greater Baltimore metro area. Greenlight expects to start connecting homes this autumn, and construction is underway to neighborhoods in Mt. Washington, Roland Park, Belair Frankford Hamilton Hills, Arcadia Glenham, and Hampden. The company also plans to add a permanent office in the area as a regional hub.
LiveOak Fiber has tapped Accelecom to help build out its FTTx footprint in Georgia. The collaboration will target Chatham and Glynn Counties, both along the state’s Atlantic coast. Kentucky-based Accelecom expanded into Monroe GA just a couple of weeks ago as well.
Also down in Georgia, Ciena says its gear will be further enabling eCommunity Fiber’s Morrow Smart City project. The plans call for deployment of Ciena’s 5164 routers and related technology to power a direct link to the Atlanta Internet Gateway. Morrow is in Clayton County a bit south of Atlanta.
And Archtop Fiber has broken ground on a project in New York’s Sullivan County. The plans call for 220+ miles of underground backbone and middle mile fiber that will enable connectivity to 22K addresses. The project is funded in part by the state’s ConnectALL Municipal Infrastructure Program, which awarded Sullivan County $29.9M. If all goes well, they’ll start hooking people up later this year and be done by the end of 2026.
