On the regional infrastructure front, two network buildouts, an edge data center, and an equipment upgrade.

Empire Access is taking on more of northeastern Pennsylvania. The northeastern FTTH provider says it will be expanding into the Pennsylvania towns of Bloomsburg, Hazleton, and Nanticoke, communities which lie mostly along the Susquehanna River near I-80. Empire expects the buildout to be ready in the Fall of this year.

Ribbon Communications has won a network upgrade project out in South Dakota. Valley Telecommunications will be using their optical transport, IP routing, and domain orchestration technologies to boost its network capacity. With the upgrade they’ll be able to better serve businesses of all sizes in the region as well as support mobile backhaul.

WANRack has kicked off is buildout of an E-Rate deal down in Richmond, Virginia. The new $11M fiber network will connect all of the campuses of the Richmond Public Schools, and should be ready by next Spring. WANRack has been working on this Richmond project for some time now.

And a bit further afield, EdgeConnex has revealed plans for a third data center in Israel. The new facility will be located in Rishon, complementing their existing locations in Herzliya and Petah Tikva and bracketing the Tel Aviv metro area. It will add 7.5MW of capacity and should be ready by Q3, which is definitely a quick turnaround.
