Int’l Roundup: STT GDC, GTR, Digital Edge, Telstra

Three data center moves plus a media infrastructure acquisition from around the world:

STT GDC India has plans for a new facility in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. They are investing INR 1100 crore in the first phase of a data center project in Noida, just southeast of New Delhi. When fully built out, the project will add up to 35MW of critical IT load, 18MW of which will be available after phase 1 by Q2 of next year.

Global Technical Realty is making its first investment in the UK. They have reached an agreement with SEGRO to develop a data center campus in Slough, the popular data center market west of London. The new campus will support 40.5MW of total IT load, and will consist of three independent 5,375 square meter data centers. The first phase will be operational by Q4 of 2022. GTR is led by industry veteran Franek Sodzawiczny with funding from KKR.

Singapore-based Digital Edge has made an inorganic move into the Indonesian data center market. They have acquired a controlling interest in PT Indointernet Tbk, a.k.a. Indonet. The deal will cost Digital Edge, which is backed by Stonepeak, some $165M, and will expand their footprint to 7 locations across three countries as well as add metro fiber in Jakarta itself.

And Telstra’s Broadcast Services division has announced the acquisition of MediaCloud. The deal will give TBS a significant software-defined, cloud-based platform for media delivery, adding both a London Master Control Room and the talent to run it. The Australian TV channel SBS has renewed its playout contract with MediaCloud for 7 years as part of the deal. TBS has been expanding its global reach over the last few years.
