Friday Bytes: FirstLight, Cologix, Viawest, CoreSite, QTS

August 26th, 2016 by · Leave a Comment

Before you go on this final Friday of August, a contract win, a colo expansion, a partnership, and two compliance achievements:

FirstLight Fiber has a win to report up in northern New England. Visiting Nurse and Hospice for Vermont and New Hampshire (quite a mouthful) has picked FirstLight to improve its internet access in both West Lebanon NH and White River Junction VT. FirstLight is about to get much bigger, as its owner Oak Hill is acquiring Sovernet and Oxford and will then be merging all the assets together.

On the other side of North America, Cologix has finished off its expansion in Vancouver. They’ve added 750kW of new high density data center capacity to their VAN2 facility at 1050 W. Pender St. Cologix has been fairly quiet since its acquisition of Colo5 last year. They’re probably ready for their next M&A move by now.

Meanwhile, Viawest is hooking up with Rubrik to expand its hybrid IT solutions portfolio. They’ll be deploying Rubrik’s cloud data management technology across their footprint, targeting enterprises in need of simpler, faster data protection and recovery.

CoreSite says it has successfully obtained HIPAA validation for its 16 multi-tenant data centers. The approval of their security and privacy protection procedures will enable the company to better address the needs of the healthcare vertical.

And on a parallel track, QTS says it has achieved 3.1 PCI DSS compliance for its giant data center out in Dallas-Fort Worth. They already have it for their two Atlanta facilities as well as Richmond of course. PCI DSS compliance lets them attract more enterprise clients due to the more rigorous standards for cardholder data protection. Are you ready to take your slot machine game to the next level?
