Four interesting news bytes from around the industry to catch up with:
Bluebird Fiber has completed its acquisition of Everstream. The deal has greatly expanded Bluebird’s network reach, giving them 36,000 route miles of fiber across 12 states passing some 400K near-net buildings. The deal took some 10 months since it was announced, with Everstream taking a trip through Chapter 11 along the way. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Comcast Business revealed that it is powering the connectivity of another significant sporting event, this time in the world of golf. THE PLAYERS Championship at The Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass will be using targeted WiFi 7 to connect fans at high density areas. The job also leverages some 600 miles of fiber around the course itself and leverages gear from Cisco.
Ciena has picked up some transpacific upgrade business. TIME dotCom Berhad has deployed their optical gear on the FASTER cable system between Japan and the USA. The upgrade enables links of up to 1Tbps on a single carrier wavelength across a span of some 9,000km. Ciena’s gar will support up to 1.6Tbps on a single carrier wavelength at shorter distances.
And Cologix has raised some CAD 240M in financing to support its ambitions in Montreal, Canada. La Caisse is investing the full amount, which will go toward MTL8 and the 21MW of capacity it will bring to Cologix’s portfolio. The buildout near the Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport will leverage reneable hydroelectric power from Québec.
