A subsea cable, two last mile projects, and some data center power technology.
Sparkle has announced GreenMed a new subsea cable project connecting Europe with the Levant via a diverse path. The system will leverage the Adriatic Sea, connecting Italy, Croatia, and Montenegro, touching on Greece and Turkey, and landing in the eastern Mediterranean. I haven’t found a map of it yet, so it should be interesting to see the actual route. Alcatel Submarine Networks will take on the engineering and cable manufacture, while Elettra will handle the installation.
Lightcurve has unveiled another expansion of its FTTx network in the Pacific Northwest. They are now building out in the towns of Centralia and Chehalis. That’s in Lewis County, along I-5 between Seattle and Portland. The expansion follows projects in Selah, Thorp, and Edgemont on the other side of the Cascades in central Washington.
Gigapower has added another ISP to its platform. The JV backed by AT&T and BlackRock has entered into an agreement with DojoNetworks. DojoNetworks, which serves customers across 33 states, will provide managed Wi-Fi services to multi-family properties connected to Gigapower. It’s the second ISP with a managed Wi-Fi network provider to sign on.
And ECL has unveiled a new power-agnostic platform aimed at the next generation of data center development. Their FlexGrid tchnology aims to blend power from multiple sources more seamlessly when it comes to planning high density expansions. The idea is to let data centers with a ‘modest grid connection in the 2-10MW range’ to scale up to 20-25MW of power by bringing in additional sources and normalizing them through power conditioning systems. ECL has a focus on hydrogen, but is looking to bring in any type of renewable that is available and competitive.
